Animal Dermatology Clinic - Tustin

Dr. Rosenkrantz is a 1982 UC Davis graduate, who completed a private practice internship in 1983 and joined Dr. Craig Griffin for a residency-training program in 1983. His program was combined with interaction at the Medical School at UC Irvine and he achieved Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Dermatology (ACVD) in 1986.

Dr. Rosenkrantz has served on the ACVD and Australian Board of Examiners. He is a past chairman of the ACVD Research Funding Committee and has served on multiple past and present World Congress of Veterinary Dermatology Organization Committees. He is also currently a board member of the World Association for Veterinary Dermatology (WAVD), which functions as a governing body for the WCVD and promotes the advancement of veterinary dermatology internationally. He is a past president of the executive board of the ACVD and has served on the ACVD board for 12 years.

Dr Rosenkrantz was awarded the DVM Pharmaceutical Award of Excellence for his contributions to veterinary dermatology. He actively lectures throughout the United States and abroad and has also been an instructor for the European School of Advanced Veterinary Studies since 2005. He is also a clinical instructor for the Western Veterinary Medicine College in Pomona California for his involvement in clinical rotations of veterinary students at the Tustin location.

He has published many articles and book chapters on small animal and equine dermatology, including significant contributions to the Current Veterinary Dermatology, the Science and Art of Therapy and well as the therapy section in the 7th edition of Muller and Kirk’s Small Animal Dermatology. He is also a co-editor of a new textbook, Veterinary Allergy and Immunology.

His special interest include: veterinary dermatology therapeutics, feline and equine dermatology, dermatohistopathology, canine alopecia, immune mediated skin diseases and chronic allergic skin and ear disease management.

Dr. Rusty Muse received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University. He completed his residency at Animal Dermatology Clinic- Tustin and the University of California Irvine Department of Dermatology in 1995, and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 1996. He is also a registered specialist in dermatology in Western Australia.

Dr. Muse is an owner of the Animal Dermatology Group and receives cases in Tustin and Long Beach CA. He is also a managing director of Perth, Western Australia.

Dr. Muse is a member of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology (ACVD), the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology, the dermatology chapter of the Australia and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists, the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association, and Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association.

He has been active as a Diplomate in the ACVD and served as President of the Executive Board for the College from 2012-14. He has also been the past Secretary of the College, past Chair of the Research Funding Committee as well as a member and Chair of the Credentials Committee. Dr. Muse was the Publicity Committee Chair for the 7th World Congress of Veterinary Dermatology (WCVD7) held in Vancouver, Canada in 2012. He also sits on the Administrative Committee of the World Association for Veterinary Dermatology in his current role as Secretary of the 9th WCVD meeting to be held in Sydney, Australia in 2020.

Dr. Muse is a native of Maysville, KY and graduated from the University of Louisiana in Lafayette before being accepted to veterinary school. His outside interests include tennis and travel. Current pets include 3 great cats named Karl, Dieter and Hans.

Dr. Colleen Mendelsohn is a 1997 graduate of UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and received Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 2004.
After graduation from UC Davis, Dr. Mendelsohn completed an internship with the Animal Emergency Clinic and Animal Specialty Group in San Diego. She later practiced general medicine before starting her residency with the Animal Dermatology Clinic in 2000. Her love and appreciation of the human-animal bond is what drew Dr. Mendelsohn to this specialty. In her words, "The conditions we treat often require good long term relationships with patients and owners, which affords me the opportunity to be part of that special relationship that develops between humans and pets."

Another opportunity that Dr. Mendelsohn enjoys is the training of veterinary students, helping these students appreciate the hidden complexities of dermatologic disease.

Dr. Kimberly Lo graduated from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2012 with an award for her proficiency in dermatology. Prior to accepting a residency position at Animal Dermatology Clinic, she completed a one year rotating internship at VCA San Francisco Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Lo obtained Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Dermatology (ACVD) in 2016. She has a strong interest in both allergies and autoimmune skin diseases. She primarily sees cases in our Tustin and Mission Viejo, CA locations, in addition to occasional cases in our Indianapolis clinic. She is passionate about all things skin and brachycephalic (smush-faced) dogs, which often go hand in hand.

 

Dr. Keating graduated from University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in 2011 and completed a 3-year anatomic pathology residency at the University of California-Davis culminating in board certification with the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in 2014. She then completed an Infectious Disease Fellowship with the Centers of Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and stayed on as a Staff Pathologist. After this she worked in drug safety assessment with Charles River Laboratories. She has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed articles, and book chapters primarily in the field of infectious disease pathology.

Missing the clinical world and always having an interest in dermatology she started a dermatology residency with Animal Dermatology Clinic in 2019 with the goal of merging her interests of dermatology and dermatopathology.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Keating enjoys spending time with friends and family, including her 6-year-old orange tabby cat. She also enjoys outdoor and culinary adventures, such as rock climbing, hiking, spending time at the beach, baking sourdough bread and vegetable fermentation.

Dr. Andrea Hernandez-Bures was born and raised in the island of Puerto Rico. She went to University of Puerto Rico for her undergraduate studies and later went to Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine for her veterinary degree. Following graduation, Dr. Hernandez-Bures completed a small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship in southwest Florida and then worked in general practice for a year as a part time associate veterinarian while doing research with the dermatology service at the University of Florida. The following year, she completed a specialty internship in dermatology at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. She then moved to Tustin, CA to complete a dermatology residency with Animal Dermatology Clinic.

In her spare time, Dr. Hernandez-Bures also works with the non-profit organization in her home island, Veterinarians for Puerto Rico, to help provide free to low cost spay/neuter clinics to communities in need. She enjoys spending time with her husband, their dog Vita, and their one-eyed cat Lupe. Both of them enjoy spending time with family and traveling.

Dr. Taketa graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts, West Indies in 2017. After graduating, she worked in general practice for several months before completing a one-year rotating internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. To further pursue her interest in veterinary dermatology, she moved to Oregon where she completed a one-year dermatology internship at SkinVet Clinic, and began a residency program. She then moved to Southern California in July 2020 and joined Animal Dermatology Clinic to complete her residency program.

Dr. Taketa enjoys traveling, cooking, and hiking. She loves staying active and exploring new places, including eateries. She has a Miniature Pinscher named Scooby, who she FaceTimes occasionally since he currently resides with her family in Hawai’i.
