Leslie Sauber
DVM, Diplomate ACVD, Board Certified Veterinary Dermatologist
Dr. Leslie Sauber received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry followed by a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Oklahoma State University. She was in general practice for 8 years before starting a dermatology residency at the University of Illinois. In 1996 she completed her residency and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology.
Dr. Sauber then opened Tulsa Veterinary Dermatology in her native state of Oklahoma. She has been the sole dermatologist in the region, seeing patients from Oklahoma and the nearby states of Arkansas, Missouri and Kansas. She has also been an adjunct professor at Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine where she taught dermatology courses to third year veterinary students and saw patients with fourth year veterinary students.
Dr. Sauber has been active in the Tulsa County Veterinary Medical Association including serving as its vice president. She enjoys interacting with her general practice colleagues and very much looks forward to meeting and interacting with veterinarians in New Zealand.
Dr. Sauber’s parents claim that her first word was “dog”, but they thought she would grow out of it. She asked for a dog every year until her parents surrendered and for her 10th birthday bought her (for $10!) her first dog—a beagle she named “Sadie”. Since that time she has had a steady supply of rescue dogs and cats. Her two current dogs “Daphne Moon” a rescue English Setter mix, and “Betty Davis” (aka “Boo Boo”, “Monkey”, “Monster”, and most recently and for some unknown reason “Sputnik”) a medical challenge of a rescue Frenchie are emigrating with her. Her two cats, “Porgie” and “Bess” will be staying state-side for the time being.
Her most energy-consuming outside interest is swimming—especially open water swimming. She is very much looking forward to the active open-water swimming scene in the Auckland area. She enjoys reading and discussing literature and travelling, combining the two interests when she travels with Classical Pursuits, a small travel company owned by a Canadian friend.
Dr. Sauber is very excited about emigrating to New Zealand! On her initial trip she was touched by the friendliness, helpfulness and welcoming attitude of the NZ people. She was also impressed that so many Kiwi’s could find Oklahoma on the map (a feat that most Americans cannot do). Seems Steven Adams is quite an icon in both NZ and OK. Go Thunder!
